Our Firm
Horizon Accounting Group was previously a member firm of the Elliotts Accounting Group which had origins in both Toowoomba and Brisbane dating back to 1947.
On 1 July 2008, we took the opportunity to create our new identity, Horizon Accounting Group. With this change came a new direction with Partners, Alex Terwijn, Tim Davis and Matt Cherry all being committed to the provision of a quality personalized service.
Within the firm we have a breadth of expertise which enables us to provide tailored business services to our small and medium enterprise clients.

PARTNERS
Alex Terwijn B Bus(QUT) FCA
Married to Ruth with 2 adult daughters, Deena and Mallory.
10 years as a Commercial Accountant in the motor industry followed by 27 years in public practice.
Expertise in business consulting and superannuation and retirement planning.
Supports community activity through membership of Rotary.
Enjoys participating in Touch Football and is a keen follower of Rugby League.
Tim Davis B Bus(USQ) FCA FTIA
Married to Terri with 3 teenage daughters, Bridget, Roisin and Mairead.
Over 30 years experience in public practice in Brisbane and Toowoomba.
Significant involvement in Franchising and Pharmacy sectors including valuation, due diligence and structuring.
Registered Company Auditor with experience in commercial, Local Government and not for profit sectors.
Community involvement including Chairman of the Board of Lourdes Care and membership of Rotary.
Keen golfer and avid follower of Cricket and Rugby League.
Matt Cherry B Bus(USQ) CPA
16 years in public practice and as a Tax Accountant with a multi-national company.
Extensive experience in accounting, taxation, superannuation and retirement planning.
Broad range of clients including property developers, Real Estate businesses and primary producers.
Enjoys playing golf at the Toowoomba Golf Club and has a long association with University Cricket Club.
CLIENT MANAGERS
Ailsa Clark BBus CPA
Ailsa holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland.
She is a qualified CPA and has over 16 years experience in audit having worked in Canberra, Brisbane and now Toowoomba.
She has gained vast experience auditing a range of entities including local government councils, state and commonwealth government departments, not for profit entities, schools, associations, companies and trust funds.
John Olive BCom (USQ) CA FTIA
John Holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Accounting and Electronic Commerce from the University of Southern Queensland.
He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA), a fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and has over 8 years of experience in taxation, business services, audit and other areas of public practice.
John has extensive experience in advising a broad range of clients including small to medium family enterprises and high net worth individuals.
Outside of work, John enjoys playing sport and spends time assisting community organisations.
Sarah Osborne BBus (QUT) CPA
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting from QUT.
She is a qualified CPA and has over five years experience working in Brisbane and now Toowoomba.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys travelling and reading.
ACCOUNTANTS
Mitchell Bathurst
Mitchell is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Finance at the University of Southern Queensland.
He has over two years experience in public practice as a trainee accountant in the areas of taxation and superannuation.
Joanne Vaz BCom (USQ)
Joanne holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland.
Joanne was born and raised in Dubai, U.A.E. and is now enjoying living in Australia and working in public practice as a graduate accountant.
In her spare time, Joanne enjoys swimming, hiking, puzzles, Lebanese and Chinese cuisine.
ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT
Cathy McGrath
Cathy is our Administration Manager and she is currently completing her Dipolma in Business/Accounting.
In her spare time, Cathy enjoys water sports, rodeos and socialising with friends.
Wayne McPhail
Wayne holds a Bachelor of Business from the DDIAE and is a Associate Senior of the Australian Institute of Credit Management and is a qualified JP.
Wayne has over 38 years experience in commercial accounting in a wide variety of industries. He is the firm's business manager and in addition provide valuable in-house management services to clients.
In his spare time, Wayne enjoys travelling, watching cricket, rugby league and a spot of fishing.
Katie Minz
Katie is our receptionist/administration assistant and she holds a Certificate III in Business Administration.
In her spare time she enjoys travelling, playing indoor netball and piano.
